A Place to Unwind
A visit to Windermere offers tranquility, privacy and the restorative beauty of nature; fresh home-made bread and vegetables from the island farm, and delicious rum cocktails make for a perfect island experience. The pace of life slows, books get read, and there is all the time in the world for sunrise walks and sunset swims, snorkeling on the reefs and diving for conch.
Windermere Island offers what many people crave in their hurried lives — beauty, privacy, serenity, and a slowed pace. About 5 miles long, Windermere has beautiful wide pink sand beach running almost its entire length. This private island is connected to the larger island of Eleuthera by a short bridge, which is protected by a guardhouse. Its location is a hideaway in and of itself with entrance off the Atlantic coast of Eleuthera near the central settlement of Savannah Sound.
If you desire an activity, take a walk or jog down the often deserted beaches, try your hand at fishing as there is good bonefishing on the flats of Savannah Sound, or adventure off of Windermere to beautiful Eleuthera. The Club at Windermere, a members-only owned club, is accessible to residents and their guests. The casual-chic bar and restaurant are open seasonally (from mid-November to mid-May), and the swimming pool and tennis courts are available all year.
Aside from crossing the bridge to adjoining island Eleuthera to gather your groceries (20-30 minutes drive), most residents see no reason to leave Windermere. However, if you are feeling adventurous, Eleuthera has a wealth of activities to keep you entertained from local fish fries, to visits to local bakeries, farms and the famous Leon Levy Nature Preserve. There are also more beautiful beaches to stroll and a good selection of local restaurants.
Flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Nassau fly into Governor’s Harbour (GHB) and Rock Sound (RSD) airports daily, which are both a 40-minute drive away from Windermere Island. Car rental is readily available. Darby will assist you will all travel logistics and details.
